Fatehpur Sikri Naubat Khana (also known as Drum House) was a customary structure and a significant part of Fatehpur Sikri. It was a place for musicians to play naubat (a kind of drum) to announce the emperor's arrival.

The drums were also played during special ceremonies in the palace or while announcing the arrival of dignitaries during important events. As per legends, the drums were played five times a day, too, at appointed hours.

Naubat Khana is a majestic, three-storeyed, red sandstone structure. It was built in traditional Mughal-style architecture. And it has elegant archways adorned with beautiful carvings and embellishments depicting the excellence of Mughal architecture.

Although the building got its name because of naubat drums, they weren’t the only musical instrument played there. Shehnai was also played on various auspicious occasions.

The structure also served as a sort of gateway or checkpoint to the palace. It was one of the first structures to be passed by visitors before witnessing any other Mughal grandeur.
