Have you ever visited a tourist destination and fell completely and utterly in love with it?

Well, Agra is one such prominent tourist destination of India that mesmerises every traveller, despite age group.

Abundant with historic monuments and religious sites, Agra holds particular significance. The presence of one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Taj Mahal, solidifies Agra's importance as a key tourism hub.

One such place of significance is Dayal Bagh. Located in metropolitan Agra, Uttar Pradesh, Dayal Bagh serves as the headquarters of the Radha Swami faith founded in 1861 by Shiv Dayal Singh.

This quaint locality is not just a destination but a spiritual journey marked by intricate marble marvels, the echo of devotional hymns, and the profound teachings that resonate through the sacred corridors.

All about Dayal Bagh, Agra

Dayal Bagh is not just a religious site but a self-sustained colony where residents lead an active, disciplined, and cooperative community life.

Affiliated with the Radha Swami sect, the community follows spiritual ideals or leaders and contributes to social service through its various institutions.

#Trivia: The Radhaswami Satsang Sabha, the chief working committee of the Radhaswami faith, plays a crucial role in guiding the community.

According to the 2001 India census, Dayal Bagh had a population of 3324, with a balanced gender distribution. The community values its traditions, and residents actively participate in daily activities, including agricultural work.

The area adjacent to the Dayal Bagh colony is known as Swami Bagh, which secures the Radha Swami temple and serves as the sacred tomb of Puran Dhani Swami Ji Maharaj, the founder and first leader of the Radha Swami faith.

The temple had been under construction for 114 years and was finished in August 2018. Devotees come from far-off places to visit the Radha Swami temple, which is made of sparkling white marble.

It is said that over 150 kgs of gold have been used to decorate the dome of the temple and the urn made for the sacred tomb of Swami Ji Maharaj.

In Dayal Bagh, a quaint colony of residents, community living is taken to another level. No individual owns property, and everything, from land to houses, belongs to the community.

The residences in the neighbourhood are traditional and lack any luxurious amenities, giving the impression that time has stood still in the colony. Despite the simplicity of the people, they exhibit a magical warmth and a helpful nature.

Each house is encircled by rows of shrubs, fostering a sense of greenery and connection with nature throughout the area.

Residents share responsibilities like colony maintenance and security. The community ensures a steady supply of essential services, including water, electricity, and food from its dairy and community kitchen.

History of Dayal Bagh, Agra

The foundation of the Dayal Bagh colony was laid on the first day of spring, 15th January 1915, by Sir Anand Swarup (Huzur Sahab Ji Maharaj), the fifth revered leader of the Radha Swami sect, by planting a mulberry tree.

Originally conceived as an ashram or spiritual home for the faith, Dayal Bagh has grown into a thriving community through voluntary contributions in money and labour from its early residents.

The entire Dayal Bagh and Swami Bagh area was nothing but dunes once. The community's dedication to claim the land, an initiative in 1943 by Huzur Mehtaji Maharaj, had resulted in the present-day 1200-acre lush green farm producing various crops.
